Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education
Algebra I: Algebra I focuses on expressions, equations, functions, and rational numbers. Solving, graphing, and analyzing linear equations and inequalities, operations with polynomials, factoring, quadratic equations, radical expressions, and the quadratic formula are studied. Fundamental statistics with a linear focus is also included.
Algebra Essentials: The purpose of this 2 semester (yearlong) course is to better prepare students to be successful in the next sequential math class. First semester, the course focuses on linear functions and inequalities, systems of equations/inequalities, properties of exponents. Second semester the course focuses on operations with polynomials, factoring, rational expressions, radical expressions, quadratic equations, and the quadratic formula. Throughout the course practice for the state exit exam will be reviewed and worked on.
Geometry: Geometry is the application of algebraic concepts in terms of geometric figures. Material includes the extensive study of the triangle, parallel lines, formal proofs, the Pythagorean Theorem, quadrilaterals and other polygons, circles, two and three dimensional relationships, introduction to trigonometry, proportions, area, volume, and applications of mathematical formulas.
